SALACIOUS B. CRUMB
and the Star Wars Sprite Commercial
The Star Wars Sprite Commercial is the result of a four-person student capstone project. Our group was split in half with two people (Jai Becker and myself) working on 3D modeling and animation, and two people (Jake Abezetian and Liz Beine) doing the acting and visual effects in After Effects.
I created the Salacious B. Crumb model based on reference images from the lovely website that is Google.com. I also unwrapped the UVs for Crumb although Jai Becker did the texturing of his body. I also created 3D animations for the commercial, including the flying chair which briefly appears mid-commercial. Credit for the sprite bottle and chair models also belongs to Jai Becker.
Once I rendered out the animations in Maya, they were handed off to Jake who imported them into After Effects and placed them to appear as part of the scene.
One of my greatest challenges in this project was animating with a rig composed of solely FK controls. We made changes to the final cut as to avoid animations that require IK controls as much as possible.
The following is a collection of the work I did for our project.
